Apple makes use of the phrase “comply with” to check with podcasts when customers affiliate “subscribe” with paid content material

With iOS 14.5, Apple made some interesting changes to the user interface of the Podcasts app, which were already improved with the release of iOS 14 last year. One small change that users may not have noticed, however, is that Apple is now replacing the word “subscribe” with “follow” for podcasts.

As reported by Podnews, Apple will no longer associate the word “subscribe” with podcasts. According to a study by Edison Research, around 47% of users associate “subscribe” with paid content. This results in fewer people using the Podcasts app because they don’t understand that the content is free.

According to Tom Webster of Edison Research, 47% of people who currently don’t listen to podcasts believe that subscribing to a podcast costs money and describe it as a stone in the podcast’s growth. He told Podnews, “Apple, Spotify and YouTube are the three most popular services for playing podcasts today, and now the word subscribe in none of them means” automatically download for free “.

This move also comes at an interesting time, as rumors suggest that Apple is working on a new paid podcast platform. Although the details are uncertain, the use of the word “subscribe” for any podcast may also be related to this upcoming subscription podcast service.

In addition to the design improvements, Apple has always invested more in its podcast app. Earlier this week, the company announced a partnership with Common Sense Media to highlight curated podcast proposals for kids. Apple also unveiled its first original podcast for an Apple TV + show: For All Mankind.
