It seems like Google Analytics is now showing some of the Google Discover traffic, likely from the Google News Showcase. If you check your acquisition, source, and mean traffic, you may see [newsshowcase / discover] In the list.

Vishal Marathe was the first to discover this and post it on Twitter, as far as I can tell:

@VorticonCmdr @glenngabe Encountered this source / medium traffic in the past few days for a publisher site. Have you ever seen this before? pic.twitter.com/oaUQhm3C0m

Valentin Pletzer and Glenn Gabe got involved and determined that this was likely from the Google News Showcase product. Valentin wrote: “Looks like the google news showcase is appending utm parameters to the urls.” Glenn Gabe added, “Yeah, I’ll see that from Thursday July 29th, too. And if you sort by country, it’s countries that are running Google News Showcase.”

Great catch Vishal. Yes, I can see that from Thursday, July 29th. And if you dimension by country, those are countries that Google News Showcase is running in. pic.twitter.com/hluBNmUT7q

It can also be viewed in your real-time view in GA:

Hello @rustybrick @glenngabe @lilyraynyc, In GA in real time I notice a new source ‘Discover’ starting today. And it goes under the traffic source ‘Other’. Is that a new one. Share the Discover traffic from the Organic with Google. pic.twitter.com/iHSUnNrfLp

That’s a nice addition, but it doesn’t show all of the Google Discover traffic yet I think.

But maybe?

a colleague of mine just drew my attention to the fact that non-showcase cards are also marked with? utm_source = newsshowcase & utm_medium = discover & utm_campaign & utm_content cc @rustybrick
