ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Welp Magazine has selected a US podcast produced by the Kurdistan Autonomous Region in Iraq as one of the 20 best podcasts for government relations of 2021.

“Kurdistan in America” ​​is the official podcast of the Representation of the Regional Government of Kurdistan (KRG) in the USA, based in Washington. According to promotional material, it “explores the rich relationships” between the two governments and their people.

“We interviewed US officials, US military personnel, NGOs, professionals who work in Kurdistan, or Kurdish-Americans and others with a connection to Kurdistan,” said Delovan Barwari, the program’s producer, editor and presenter. towards Kurdistan 24.

Barwari, who is also the director of public and humanitarian affairs in the Washington office, said the primary target audience is North Americans who are interested in the Kurdistan region in particular and Greater Kurdistan in general, as well as the Kurdish diaspora.

The podcast, available on multiple platforms, has since gained global audiences. In December 2020 it was ranked 16th in popularity in Sweden, 24th in Germany and 26th in Russia.

“Our American listeners have also grown significantly,” Barwari said, adding that “based on our ongoing contact analysis, many of our American listeners, including analysts, officials, academics, think tanks and researchers, are based in Washington DC.”

He pointed out that it is the only official podcast among all KRG institutions that is also presented in English.

Bayan Sami Abdul Rahman, head of the KRG representative office in Washington, denied several recent reports that Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi and US President Joe Biden would announce at their meeting on Monday that US combat forces would enter Iraq until the end of 2021.
