New to Apple Podcasts? Here is an introduction to controlling podcast playback

Learn how to control playback speed, set the skip duration, or start a sleep timer in the Apple Podcasts app.

If you’re looking for a place to explore inspiring, fun, and informative audio stories and shows, Apple’s Podcasts are a pretty good place to start. But first you have to learn how to use it.

Playback controls are great tools that give you a seamless listening experience. Read on to learn more about each of the playback controls in the Podcasts app and how to use them.

The skip buttons

Podcasts allow you to quickly skip through the episode you’re listening to using the skip buttons on either side of the play button. Tapping one of these buttons will move you backwards or forwards through your podcast episode for a few seconds.

By default, the skip back button is set to 15 seconds, while the skip forward button is set to 30 seconds. However, you can edit the number of seconds for both Forward and Return Buttons on the settings. In order to do this:

  1. Go to Settings> Podcasts.

  2. Scroll down to Skip buttons. Set the number of seconds for the Forward and Return Buttons by tapping on them and selecting from 10, fifteen, 30th, 45, and 60 seconds.

Control the podcast playback speed

If you’re like me, the podcast speaker’s rate of speech is going to be so slow at times. You can change that Playback speed at will by tapping 1x Button to change your playback speed from normal (1x) Speed ​​to one and a half (1 1 / 2x), double (2x) or half (1 / 2x) Speed.

Use Airplay to play podcasts on a speaker

You can listen to podcasts via your device, headphones or external speakers. To hear through your speaker, tap the Air game and choose where you want to play it. If you’re using external bluetooth speakers or AirPods, make sure bluetooth is turned on on your device.

Set the sleep timer and drift away

If you enjoy listening to a podcast while you are going to sleep, you can set a sleep timer that will automatically stop playing the podcast after a certain amount of time.

To do this, swipe up from the playback screen, tap the Sleep timerand select a time to timer before your podcast automatically stops. Alternatively, you can simply stop playback at the end of the episode so as not to go straight to the next episode.
